How it Works
Provider Orders Test
Your physician or healthcare provider places an order for one of Arboretum’s genetic test panels.
Cheek Swab Sample Collection
Provide a simple, painless cheek swab sample, either at home with a mailed kit or in person during an office visit.
Sample Shipped to Lab
Your sample is securely shipped to our CLIA-certified laboratory for analysis.
Billing and Insurance Review
We evaluate insurance reimbursement on your behalf. If your estimated out-of-pocket responsibility with insurance looks high, our team will call you to discuss options before proceeding.
Results Generated
Your results are typically ready within 14 to 21 days of the lab receiving your sample.
Results Review
A provider and/or genetic counselor reviews your results with you, explaining findings and any recommended next steps.
Research Registry (Optional)
You will be invited to enroll in the Arboretum research registry contributing to advances in genetic research.
Research participants receive additional clinical test results at no cost to them, and may be invited to participate in trials for treatments tailored to their biology.
Specimen Collection Instructions
Simple Cheek Swab
All of our tests use a painless cheek swab that takes about two minutes. No blood draw is needed. Your kit includes two swabs and two collection vials, along with step-by-step instructions.
You can collect your sample at home using a kit we mail to you, or during a visit with your provider. Before swabbing, just rinse your mouth with water.
